Our Will has had some cracking singles in his time, but with news that he's temporarily putting his music on hold to pursue an acting career, we hope he isn't away from the charts for too long. 'Let It Go', the title track from last year's fifth album, is a likeable single - but it's just likeable - and that's where the problem lies. There is nothing to really jump out and make this an excellent, let alone an exceptional song that we're used to Will Young offering us.
His vocals are always a highlight and in truth, here he sounds as breathtaking as ever. But the song itself fails to make a big impression in terms of the music; barely audible acoustic guitars, drums and pianos that are practically so non-existant, this could have been an acapella. The melody is also a lacklustre effort too (try whistling it back 10 seconds after the song is over).
A wasted opportunity, Will's heartfelt voice deserves a stronger backing track than this.
