It's amazing how a one-off single can change the musical direction of an artist in a heartbeat. After scoring a number 2 hit earlier this year with the club-dominating Wearing My Rolex, underground grime MC and producer Wiley has become a name to watch when it comes to exciting pop music. There is no finer example than this than 'Ca$h In My Pocket' - produced by Mr Horns himself Mark Ronson, and starring up-and-coming singer Daniel Merriweather (from Mark's 'Stop Me').
Through tumbling bass, Hammond organs and breakbeats, this blend of pop-funk is a far away call from the synths, club beats and electro of 'Rolex'. Yet Wiley sounds on form, proving his versatility as a rapper that can spit over any style of music thrown his way. There is one complaint though; Merriweather's verse is a bit overpowering, given the fact he is actually a guest on the track.
Still, it's so dangerously addictive it should come well a health warning.
