Are guest appearances the thing of the moment? We've already endured Cheryl Cole starring on Will.i.Am's disappointing 'Heartbreaker', Fergie on Nelly's comeback single 'Party People' and now finishing off the trilogy of pop-princess cameos, is former All Saints singer Shaznay Lewis - who here, has hooked up with Wideboys.
Though it is watered-down garage catering for the Ministry Of Sound consuming public, 'Daddy O' is a guaranteed hit that will work in local dance clubs, just as much as it will on mainstream radio and in car stereos (just picture the Playboy Bunny-bearing cars blaring this out for the next few months). Although Lewis was never the strongest vocalist in All Saints, her voice is much more suited to the insta-hit club formula of a massive garage bassline, and the in-your-face urban club beats on display here.
It makes a mockery of the out-of-date musings found on the failed comeback her girl group suffered last year and suggests there is still light at the end of the tunnel for Lewis; all she needs to do is hire a bunch of insta-hit producers (Ronson and Harris would do the trick) and she could soon reignite her position in the top 40. As for Wideboys, they've got a huge hit on their hands - they just need to sit back and wait for those royalty cheques to come flying in.
