Westlife - What About Now

In a period of pop when you can't move for female singers dominating the charts, is there much call for a boyband like Westlife anymore? Especially one that has been around the block for a decade now releasing similar-sounding songs year after year...

Well, clearly someone at their label thinks there is, as the Irish group will soon be releasing their tenth album 'Where We Are'. Continuing their trend of covering well-known songs, Westlife have taken on Daughtry's 'What About Now' - a recent hit from the US songwriter, who rose to fame on American Idol.

It's infinitely better than their usually bland ballad releases, but musically doesn't really differ from the epic original. They could easily be crooning over the same track and nobody would be able to tell any different - except for the singing that is - with Westlife's contribution losing some of the edge and impact of Daughtry's rawer vocals.
