Tokyo Police Club - In A Cave

Tokyo Police Club are a good example of how a modern day band can go from tipped greatness (a few heavily praised early singles) to simple "meh" status overnight (thanks to ironing out the rawness of those early praised singles and recording an over-produced album). The tunes are there, they always were, but given the slick studio treatment the band went through for their debut Elephant Shell, they've become another generic indie band. Sadly.

Here the Canadians sound flatter than a steamrolled pancake. The guitars, all-chugging and still Strokes-like despite what some people may say, sound too stripped-back almost to the point that you question why they bothered plugging in their amps that day. The drums & bass are equally "where the hell are they?" and the vocals are thrown blatantly in your face, which would be no bad thing if there was anything memorable about the lyrics or melody.

After an abrupt ending, only 45 seconds later do you realise the song finished an age ago. 'In A Cave' hardly causes ripples on the richter scale.
