For years Tinchy Stryder has been a well-known name in the grime underground, appearing on pirate radio stations and releasing mixtapes since his early teens. But now, like many others from the scene, he's attempting to break into the mainstream and bring home the dollars.
Last commercial single 'Stryderman' failed to chart as highly as expected, but for follow-up 'Take Me Back' the East London MC has (wisely) brought in hit songwriter Taio Cruz. Together they've created a song that could easily stand up to their US counterparts - thanks largely to a steady club beat, plenty of synths that ride the electro wave successfully and (surely on the way out by now?) AutoTune vocals.
In terms of a pop song it ticks all the right boxes and could be a big hit. It's also singles like this that could see UK urban artists dominating the charts for once. It's likely you'll be hearing a lot more from Tinchy Stryder in 2009.
