No matter how disappointing Timbaland's Shock Value album was upon its release earlier this year (it had more than its fair share of duff moments, let's be honest here), no one can really deny that the record did have some potentially great singles on there, much like this one.
The first track off the LP - the Justin Timberlake and Nelly Furtado collaboration Give It To Me (read a review) was a big success pretty much worldwide, so follow-up single The Way I Are has more than a lot to live upto.
Here we find the super producer hooking up with up-and-coming vocalist Keri Hilson and D.O.E. and as truth be told that the song is no way near as infectious as Give It To Me, it does have its moments. The wiry rave-coated synths are intact and the stomping, heavier than lead weight beats will make the song an instant club hit.
But the lyrics on The Way I Are are unbelievable and weak. Although describing a love scene, you can't just take a producer as notorious and famous as Timbaland singing lines like "I ain't got no money, I ain't got no car to take you on a date" and "I ain't got no Red American Express, we can't go nowhere exotic." It just doesn't cut when the guy earns more for getting out of bed, than the rest of us earn in a year.
