The Last Shadow Puppets - The Age Of The Understatement

Let's cut to the chase, we all know The Last Shadow Puppets comprise of Alex Turner and Miles Kane, of Arctic Monkeys and The Rascals respectively. Now we've got that well-publicised fact out of the way, how do the duo fare for their first release?

Names like Scott Walker, Ennio Morricone and David Axelrod are being banded around at any mention of the two-piece and their debut single The Age Of The Understatement (also the title track from the debut album), which probably gives you a basic grasp of their sound.

A grand orchestral swell and dramatic chorus, walloping marching drums met with spaghetti-western twang and naturally, duelling vocals thick with regional accents. Like a more suave Coral, it surprisingly works despite wearing its influences more than proudly.
