In a recent interview the Sugababes promised fans they hadn't gone "all American" on their new album, and yet new single 'Get Sexy' couldn't be a more American sounding song if it tried. Not unlike anything off the new Black Eyed Peas album, it shares the same minimalist qualities of their number one hit 'Boom Boom Pow', and with words like "dime" being tossed around, it's obvious this is targeted more towards our Stateside cousins than their long-term fans back home in Blighty.
It's a tricky one - on one hand 'Get Sexy' is fun, exciting and going back to their dancier roots (unlike the mishap of their last album 'Catfights and Spotlights') - but on the other, it sounds like so many other songs available at this time, and the Sugababes were never a sheep band that follows the competition.
Where their past offered ahead of their peers songs like 'Freak Like Me' and 'Right Round', 'Get Sexy' is a play-safe option. Not that this is a bad song, but the Sugababes have opted to record a single that will do well right now on both sides of the Atlantic. But will we really be looking back to the record in 6 months time, let alone a year? It's highly doubtful.
