Soulja Boy - Yahhh! (Feat. Arab)

The hype machine that supported this seventeen year old rapper's worldwide debut hit, Crank That, has finally died down, but there's no escaping Soulja Boy just yet. Yahhh!, the third single from the hugely underwhelming Souljaboytellem.com, is yet more dumbed down hip-hop for the masses.

With Crank That being the final nail in coffin for snap-beat music, Yahhh! is more Crunk orientated. The synthesizers are pushed right up to the forefront and the low-riding beats bounce and skip, while lyrically, Soulja Boy speaks about being hounded by autograph-hungry fans in the street, to which he 'politely' tells them to "get out my face".

Considering everything was composed at home on a laptop and using budget software, the track sounds as full as any top-end producer. But as the album showed, Soulja Boy is a one-trick pony, incapable of producing anything other than slow-paced repetitive beats. With barely any vocal other than spoken word phrases, he's also proving you no longer need any lyrically skill to succeed in hip-hop.

This is disposable as you can get and made solely to sell ringtones to early teens. With crap like this getting signed, hyped and selling insanely well, I guess it's true when they say "hip-hop is dead".
