Soulja Boy - iSouljaBoyTellEm

Don't expect any sudden shift in sound for 19-year-old rapper Soulja Boy on second album 'iSouljaBoyTellEm'. If recent interviews hinted that the 'Yahhh!' star wanted to grow up on his sophomore release, then he has a strange way of showing it. Within this 16 track sequel, we get the same repetitive beats and tiresome lyrics we heard the first time around, that offers nothing in the way of a serious rap album, or any true substance.

Both in terms of music and lyrical subject matter, this is an album aimed at the teen ringtone market and the kind of fan who embraces Soulja Boy's novelty YouTube dance videos. Blatantly hoping to keep selling on the same levels of 'Crank That', that saw him gain the title of biggest selling download single ever and helped him become the household name he is today, DeAndre Way delivers basic juvenile rap at its most throwaway.

Tracks like 'I Pray' discuss his new found stardom, taking jabs at girls riding on his fame: "I got girls claiming I got them pregnant, my life is really hectic." On 'Kiss Me Thru the Phone', we hear Soulja Boy getting romantic and laying down a love song, then there are tracks like 'Bird Walk' (cue another dance craze) and 'Booty Got Swag' - a song dedicated to girls' rear ends. Hardly the wise words of a serious rapper.

There will come a time when Soulja ditches the "boy" alias to become a man, but for now the name seems suitable for this blend of adolescent, teen-directed pop-rap. Any serious fan of hip-hop should keep miles away.
