'Critical' is the first proper single for Liverpudlians Soft Toy Emergency since signing to All Around The World (which means they're now rubbing shoulders with label mates N-Dubz and Cascada).
But there's a good chance you'll already be familiar with their music - they've spent the last year releasing their first low-key single 'I Kno U Want It', and building up a steady fanbase supporting acts like Friendly Fires and N.E.R.D..
More electro than their New Young Pony Club-baiting pop-funk debut, 'Critical' is a blend of shiny dayglo synths, a hint of 80s new-wave in the jerky vocals and bouncy digital beats - all sounding very-now and like the kind of thing a fan of La Roux or Little Boots would jump at.
There's a lot of fun to be had listening to a band like Soft Toy Emergency who set are to make careless, neon-coated synth-pop - and they don't fail at their goal either.
