Sliimy - Paint Your Face

News of French oddball Sliimy spread faster than wildfire on the blogosphere throughout the summer, no thanks to a certain celebrity gossip blogger who has been championing the 20 year old eccentric. Signed by Perez Hilton after hearing a sketchy Britney Spears cover - but don't let that put you off - full length album 'Paint Your Face' continues the sketchy DIY nature of that 'Womanizer' rework.

Just as leading single 'Wake Up' was a pleasing listen, the vast majority of the remaining album follows suit; lo-fi twinkly electronics, battered acoustic guitars and computer generated beats, all of which sound like they were recorded in his bedroom.

Only on songs such as 'Baby' or 'Mum' do we get to hear his other side, or alter-ego if you will - a less comical and more serious place, where moody pianos and atmospheric vocals hint not everything is always so dayglo and wonderful in the world of Sliimy.

The main problem with the newcomer is he is just too whimsical, too rushed and too laid-back. Parts of 'Paint Your Face' appear more like a demo than a serious album - the tracks are thrown together much in the way of a personal compilation tape or a collection of random home recordings.
