There has been a horrific lack of cheesy pop lately since the disappearance of groups such as S Club 7 and Steps, but Same Difference have arrived just in time with their first album 'Pop', injecting the fun factor into the veins of anyone who listens to it.
Love them or hate them, the adorable sibling duo have such infectious enthusiasm for what they do, that I defy anyone who claims to despise the chirpy pop act to say this is a bad album. Think of the corniest tracks around, and they are bound to be covered on this debut - and have no doubt they were sung with a smile on their faces.
Obvious examples of the cheesy covers are 'Nothing's Gonna Stop Us Now' and High School Musical's 'Breaking Free', but We R One - the lead single - can't be forgotten, as this could easily have been on a hit teen musical soundtrack - brilliant stuff! 'Let Me Be The One' would seem very at home on the Euorvision Song Contest, and that's nothing to be ashamed of - it's a great time to revel in over the top camp music.
'I Need A House' is a bit of a let down, if it's possible it's chorus is overly tacky and for some reason Sarah sings with an American accent. 'If You Can't Dance' is quite Eurovision too, it's slightly similar to Scissor Sisters... but not in a good way. Occasionally a song such as 'All Roads Lead To Heaven' or 'Better Love Me' sounds as though it will be more modern, but give it a minute and the music will kick in and throw you back into the 1980's - classic. 'Starts To Beat Again' is another nice song, but it does sound very similar to a lot of the others.
The best tracks on the album have to be debut single 'We R One', 'Breaking Free' and 'Better Love Me'. The harmonies work brilliantly, just try and forget that the two singers are related! Sarah is definitely the better of the two vocalists, and although together they do sound rather music/stage school orientated, as a pop act they are great - good old wholesome music has finally hit the shelves again. These two are so cute and fun, they deserve to do well!
