When I first saw the title of this song I thought it would be a cover of Madonna's 'Take A Bow' - but unfortunately it's not (and that was a little disappointing. Although it has a similar theme, it's an all new tune produced by StarGate.
Rihanna seems to do best with her dancier songs other than her ballads and this release shows why. It's not a bad track at all, but although I disliked the male vocals showing up in previous slower single 'Hate That I Love You', I felt that 'Take A Bow' lacked the same sort of melody that would make it as memorable.
The basic theme to the song is that her boyfriend cheated on her, but her voice lacks a lot of emotion which somewhat ruins the track and makes the subject less believable. I'd love to hear her sing a proper power ballad that'd really show her vocals off to the max - this seems a wasted opportunity.
As a single and more to the point as a Rihanna single, this song has a lot of promise but it's not as catchy as Please Don't Stop The Music, nor will it be as successful as 'Umbrella'. If the American version of our Leona Lewis has a voice just as good, she really needs to put it out there and show it off!
