"I want to be a popstar, and I'm going to do that on my own terms!" Preston was recently quoted as saying. But even with a statement like that, no one would ever have imagined the ska-loving former reality TV star would return as a fully-fledged pop star in the making.
'Dressed To Kill', his debut solo single, couldn't be further away from the sounds of The Ordinary Boys if it tried. Complete with its 80s Siouxie & The Banshees sample of 'Happy House', Preston conjures up a dark brew of sinister electropop - all sliding synths and drum machines - but most notably, his gothic-esque vocal that removes any ounce of his former lout-image.
Is 'Dressed To Kill' enough to make him the pop star he strives to be? Well, it's not strong enough for the coveted number one position, but he's on the right path for top 10 success.
