Placebo - For What It's Worth

Placebo have had some classic singles in their 15-years together, but 'What It's Worth' will never be counted as one of them. It has been three years since the band's 'Meds' album reassured the fanbase that they still had it, and what with recent news that the band we're going "DIY" on their latest record (self-funding and self-releasing the longplayer), sixth album 'Battle For The Sun' looked promising.

But in terms of a big comeback for Placebo, disappointing is an understatement. Brian Molko's lyrics are weakening with age and becoming predictable ("Broke up the family, everybody cried. For what it’s worth I have a slow disease, that sucked me dry,") an out-of-place Gameboy sample midway through is confusing and unnecessary, while brass instruments to beef up the closing moments are all a bit stadium-band. 3 years to write this? Should have taken another 12 months.1
