Pete Doherty - Last Of The English Roses

Like fellow tabloid darlings Amy Winehouse and Britney Spears, it's forgivable to forget that Pete Doherty not only counts being a musician as his full-time day job, but he's also released several pretty decent albums in the last 7 years as a member of both The Libertines (R.I.P.) and Babyshambles.

Now going it alone for his long in the works debut solo record 'Grace/Wastelands' (with the assistance of Graham Coxon and Blur producer Stephen Street), 'Last Of The English Roses' isn't quite what you'd expect from a singer whose every movement and action provides tomorrow's fish-and-chip wrapping.

A strange choice of lead single (it's hardly a knock-em-out impact track), Peter presents a refreshingly different lethargic listen of stoner-esque guitar strums and drawn-out vocals. With the pleasing addition of melodica and elevated bass, it's safe to say Doherty has been listening to a dub record or few for inspiration.

'Last Of The English Roses' is going to turn a lot of heads and possibly earn Peter Doherty a few new fans along the way.
