Paolo Nutini - Coming Up Easy

Ditching the ballads and jumping ship on his second album Sunny Side Up was the wisest decision 21-year-old Paolo Nutini could make, especially when he's coming out with songs like 'Coming Up Easy'.

Clearly loved-up to the eyeballs when he penned this, the lyrics fall on the sickeningly sweet ("We would watch the sun coming up east, while the rain came tumbling down", and "I turn to you and inhale where you lay"), but puppy-eyed poetry aside, this is a jaunty feel-good listen. Guitars strum lazily, organs swirl, Nutini's throaty vocals sound warm and deep, and there's a rich assortment of brass instruments - precisely what this grey summer is in desperate need of.

With his past singles Paolo has proved himself as a hitmaker and as a talented songwriter, thankfully this ticks both boxes.
