Oasis - The Shock Of The Lightning

By now it should be pretty obvious Oasis will never change their well-trodden path of rock. No matter how many times the Gallagher's inform us they've gone a bit "experimental", or a bit "psychedelic" on a forthcoming album, they still produce a near replica of their previous LP.

So, 'The Shock Of The Lightning' then, is just that - it's classic Oasis at their usual swaggering best - a song that could have been plucked from any record in their back catalogue and perhaps this is the key to their success; familiarity.

Other bands far younger than Oasis' years mellow out rapidly over the duration of a few albums, yet here the group sound surprisingly exciting.

Liam has an agressive spark to his snarl and there's an urgency to the thrashing guitars / bombard of drums - so much so, it's hard to imagine that it has been fourteen years since they released critics favourite 'Definitely Maybe'.

Oasis aren't reinventing the wheel, but no one is expecting that - they do however, know the perfect formula for stadium-pleasing rock. Fans will love the band's return, haters will remain indifferent. So no change there then.
