Get out the ol' earplugs, Mogwai are back in town. 'Batcat', the first song from 'The Hawk Is Howling', lives up to its evil-esque title - although nothing could really prepare you for the sonic onslaught of white noise guitars in this welcome beast of a comeback single.
A band who have never hidden from their love of metal, the title track on this EP is an explosive listen to say the least - juggernaut guitars, crippling bass, thundering drums and crashing cymbals - the earthquake-sized rhythm section defines the word gruelling in a nutshell.
It is everything to love about Mogwai and these are five uneasy minutes you'll want to keep re-living over and over again. Just imagine the sheer volume of this in the live arena.
