They’re proud to sing in their own voices (Geordie ones to be precise), they display a passion for music and an aptitude for rushing rhythm, so it is a case of welcome back Maximo Park, you have been missed.
Paul Smith’s authoritative, almost Winn Butler singing command is coaxed along by spacey keyboards, trundling guitars and kicking percussion. This adds to the feeling proffered in the vocals and personal lyrics of an intimate, but accessible nature.
The vocal control of Smith picks up and drops you back down again as though you are a sack of spuds, getting to heavy for him at times. It is this defiant tone that will see them return to and surpass the heights reach in debut album, A Certain Trigger.
