The hip-hop world is still feeling the aftershock of last week's announcement, when Dwayne Michael Carter, Jr., AKA Lil Wayne, gave an official street date for 'Tha Carter III'. In terms of a comeback, this upfront radio cut is as lightweight as a title so nausiating as 'Lollipop' suggests, and as the self-proclaimed "best rapper alive", Wayne is doing himself few favours in proving his lyrical assault - instead, choosing some weak-and-weird auto-tune shit and sub-par hip-hop.
Ok, he's not trying to show his off lyrical skill in this one, but the Deezle-produced beats are so 2006 and generic, had 'Lollipop' been released by anyone else, no would be paying any notice - and that's a sad fact. Change is good and necessary, especially in this game, but the slow-grind bump, digital beeps and cotton-wool-soft synths of 'Lollipop' scream dollar bills instead of integrity. Get those fingers crossed and hope this is a one-duff track on the third part of the Carter trilogy. Three years for this?
