Lemar - Weight Of The World

Crikey. Who'd have thought one of this year's best R&B singles (and yes, it is only February) wouldn't come a from a top dollar US singer, but Blighty's very own Lemar. Granted the song was made by US producers Jim Jonsin and Louis Bianciello, who have written hits for T.I., Leona Lewis and Kelly Clarkson between them, but 'Weight Of The World' easily matches, if not overshadows the usual chart-hogging culprits like Ne-Yo and Chris Brown.

To say the track is anything less of majestic is an understatement. All delicate pianos and R&B beat shuffles, Lemar's soulful vocals churn out a gripping chorus of "It feels like the weight of the world, have the angels turned their back on me?", over synths and a strange (slightly sinister) underlying robotic voice. It not only reminds just how criminally overlooked last year's 'Reason' album was, but how Lemar is one of the greatest voices to emerge from the UK in the last decade.
