Having spent the last eight years penning hits for Britney, Ciara, Usher etc, or featuring as a guest star on tracks by Timbaland ('The Way I Are') and Nas ('Hero'), 26-year-old singer-songwriter Keri Hilson steps out of the shadows to become a pop star in her own right. 'In A Perfect World' is a dizzying mixed-bag of the hottest scenes overtaking the charts right now; R&B, electro-pop and club-hop.

It's the high-energy tracks where Hilson is in her element, such as the synthy beat-heavy 'How Does It Feel', the Timbaland-starring 'Return The Favor' or radio-friendly 'Knock You Down' - a mix of R&B and rap, as assisted by Ne-Yo and Kanye West. Elsewhere, Hilson makes things a little more interesting. She ropes in the girls for the all-female hip-hop of 'Get Your Money Up' (feat. Keyshia Cole & Trina), toys with Asian flavors on personal highlight 'Intuition' and on past single 'Energy', shows her ballad side. The filler moments - 'Slow Dance' and 'Make Love' - are awkward and uninspired when sandwiched between a dance-orientated record.

In terms of multi-tasking, Keri Hilson has it all. Her impressive and diverse vocal talent wrestles with the biggest names out there, and she writes the kind of hooks that sell a million records. When combined, 'In A Perfect World' ticks all the right boxes.
