Forget Eminem's comeback, or 50 Cent's 'Before I Self Destruct', there's only one major rap album that's going to blow the competition out of the water this year; Jay-Z's long awaited 'The Blueprint 3'.
Jay has hooked-up with cohorts Rihanna and Kanye West for the self-explanatory 'Run This Town' - if there were ever 3 artists to really rule the roost, Hova has them on board right here. Produced by West and No I.D., the drum-rolling beats and psych-guitars (reminiscent of 70s cult psych maestro Mustafa Ozkent), provides the ideal backing for the trio.
It's difficult to determine who wins at MCing here, so high-caliber is the wordplay on display - West almost comes close to outshining Jay on his own track - but the Roc-A-Fella mogul manages to oust the 'Love Lockdown' rapper for the throne. Rihanna is also on top form, she's back on track and offers a really radio-friendly hook on the chorus.
'Run This Town' hits the mark for so many different music lovers - it's accessible for the RiRi fans, and sees the two microphone champions go hard at their rhyming. No doubt about it, Jay-Z has regained his title of the King of Rap.
