Gossip - Listen Up!

Taking the spirit of the legendary and influential ESG, party fiends Gossip's latest single (from the globally applauded Standing In The Way Of Control) is an infectious stab of percussive disco-punk that is likely to fill any dance or indie clubfloor.

In Listen Up!, a low slung Bootsy-esque funk bassline rattles the speakers as frontwoman Beth Ditto sings a seductive post-soul / disco vocal line, over a loop of punk-funk drums and cowbells. Fans of the relatively quiet Spektrum will adore the band, as this Arkansas guitar-dance outfit merge with ease parts of Funkadelic, Donna Summer and A Certain Ratio.

Although their roots clearly favour retro genres, when mixed together they make something fairly contemporary and a whole lot of fun in the process. Single of the week!
