What is it with the sudden influx of girl bands as of late? Joining The Dolly Rockers and Mini Viva on the radar stakes are new trio on the scene Girls Can't Catch.
Now, the pop three-piece are undoubtedly going to be in the shadow of established queens of the charts Girls Aloud and The Saturdays - not only because they shame the same record label - but because they make similar sounding pop aimed at the same fanbase.
Debut 'Keep Your Head Up' is extremely contemporary; the chorus is catchier than swine flu, and the blending of clubby beats and electro pop should be screaming "hit", but in general lacks something their peers have enabled to achieve effortlessly. With a cheap looking style and an even cheaper looking video (it's filmed in a junk yard...), maybe the label are holding back the hits for their flagship acts?
Judging by this debut, you can't help but feel they'll never match the same levels of fame and fortune as their label mates. If Girls Can't Catch want to branch out from the easy comparisons, they're going to have to try and discover a sound of their own. Let's hope the second single proves us wrong - afterall, The Saturdays' debut was far from their strongest song.
