Funeral For A Friend - Into Oblivion

The long-time flag-bearers for British emo, Funeral For A Friend, enter the perilous third album territory with expansive boldness.

For the most part, volume is cast aside in favour of aching melody, manifesting in weeping, drawn out guitars and the hearty, nostalgia spewing vocals of Matt Davies. Rubbing percussion is provided by virtue of the so far understated drummer Ryan Richards, mingling well with the spasms of chilling subtlety and remaining textured accompaniment.

Davies’ drawn out vocals follows the new accompanying direction with religious devotion, showing that Funeral For A Friend are now more brooding than ever. However, there is more than a trickle of maturity running through this soul-aching foray. Suggesting that forthcoming album ‘Tales Don’t Tell Themselves’, could be a glorious coming of age.
