It must have been impossible for Mark Everett to choose this latest single when he's just recorded a 22 track album, nevertheless, 'Hey Man (Now You're Really Living) finds Eels in usual striking form.
Launching with an epic Summery chorus and jangly guitars, the single slots into classic Eels territory rivalling anything from the band's eight year history.
Trumpets, West Coast melody and plain daft lyrics, 'Hey Man..' does wonders to distance themselves from the melancholic stigma the band are often associated with.
This is Eels doing the Beach Boys 'Wild Honey' for a 2005 audience and if anything, it proves once again that an accomplished sound so tight and perfect should never be altered.
