Doves - Sky Starts Falling

Not in their usual style of huge stadium filling indie anthems, Sky Starts Falling sees Doves leaning towards the garagey punk sound of their peers.

Previous tracks to be taken from Some Cities saw the Mancunian three-piece as per usual, delving into anthemic and cinematic singles steeped in melody, melancholy and heartfelt vocals. Sky Starts Falling with it's pounding kick drum and raw production, is the band showing their fiercer, angsty sound completed by a crescendo of feedbck guitars of almost Sonic Youth proportions. There's a strong Strokes feel throughtout the whole track, created by a rhythm section of chugging guitars and throbbing bass, that offers a side to the band they should consider touching on more frequently.

Of course this doesn't mean the trio have taken to copying their counterparts. There is still huge emphasis on melody and chorus in the way only Doves can pull off, leaving Sky Starts Falling as one of September's best singles.
