Is this the same Dizzee Rascal that has been sound-tracking the summer with his massive party songs and festival anthems? Apparently so judging from the name spread across the CD - but you wouldn't think it, and that's not a good thing.
Having built a niche for himself crossing over rap and dance music, the cheeky East London MC has taken the club scene and pop market by storm in the past 18 months, notching up three consecutive number one singles. But with 'Dirtee Cash' that run of top-selling tracks looks set to come to an end - there's none of the hard club beats found on Holiday or the wild mentalness we heard (and loved) on Bonkers - instead we get a pretty tame and uninspired sample of the 1990 Stevie V hit.
Just as Tinchy Stryder's Olive-sampling 'You're Not Alone' is a duff record, the original song has barely been altered so it's a fairly dated sound on display - a million miles from the "very now" productions of Armand Van Helden or Calvin Harris, let's put it that way.
They say all good things come to an end, and this is the sound of Dizzee at his worst. The Rascal can do a lot better.
