Devendra Banhart - I Feel Just Like A Child

Early reports of Devendra Banhart's new album Cripple Crow suggested the singer's music now looked to a complete full band backing and bigger sounding studio production. I Feel Just Like A Child does come across as a lot less lo-fi and sketchy than usual, but rest assured Banhart's music has lost none of it's edge.

With I Feel Just Like A Child, there's an instant recognition that Banhart's latest batch of songs retain the homely, warm and no frills approach to his recordings, yet even with the addition of a studio environment, there's still no indication as to what era this music even originated from. With most of Cripple Crow, the new songs benefit from the addition of pianos and quiet cellos that sometimes resemble the spooky montage of Espers.

However with I Feel Just Like A Child, the song finds his backing band adding uptempo drum rolls and bouncing basslines, with various band members contributing to the party atmosphere background vocals. All in all, the whole song has a sort of bluesy-rock Stones feel to it and sees Devendra shaping into a band-based musician, incorporating other instruments into his unique melting pot of music.
