With strong ties to uber-producer and hitmaker of the moment Mark Ronson, newcomer Daniel Merriweather is already well on his way to a top 10 hit before this single has even touched radio airwaves. Perhaps best known as the "voice" on Ronson's 2007 hit 'Stop Me' or Wiley's Cash In My Pocket, the Australian singer is preparing the release of his debut album 'Love & War'.
Citing his influences as Stevie Wonder and Prince, newest single 'Change' is a typically funky affair with plenty of bass, drum rolls and with anything touched by Mark, is littered with retro horns. Owing more to hip-hop than the soul and 60s pop obsession of Allen, Adele and Winehouse, the tinkering pianos and beat-heavy backing hits hard like a lost Jay-Z track.
If 'Love & War' contains more singles with as much impact as 'Change', then Merriweather will no longer be seen as just a filler vocalist for other artists and become a permanent name in the charts for the "next year, next year and the year after".
