Blood Red Shoes - Say Something, Say Anything

Yet another catchy gem from the Brighton duo ahead of the release of their 'Box Of Secrets' album, which on the basis of the singles they've been putting out recently, could well be a blinder.

For the time being though, ‘Say Something, Say Anything’ goes some way to help satiate our appetite as we wait impatiently for their debut long player. We’re treated to a typically powerful BRS intro, which develops into a snappy cacophony before the arrival of drummer Steven on lead vocal duty this time around, his voice looming large over a moody riff from Laura-Mary which smacks of Teenage Riot-era Sonic Youth.

When the chorus kicks in it provides as much evidence as ever that Blood Red Shoes can be infectious as well as damn loud, with both band members yelling a harmonious set of refrains which course through the veins of the song right up to its climax. For all the changes in tempo throughout, there’s a refreshing sense of relentlessness and urgency about this track. Definitely time to open the box.
