Bless Beats - The Rain (Feat. Wiley & Charlie Brown)

Bless Beats is a name you probably won't be over-familiar with, but you'll undoubtedly be aware of his music - he's the very producer behind Wiley's smash single 'Wearing My Rolex'. But for those who keep their ear to the underground, they'll know Beats is a respected name in the grime scene for some time now.

'The Rain' is the first mainstream single for his new Blatant Swagger label (which he co-runs with Mos Wanted Mega) and it's a banger. The key to its success is the mixed styles on board; the song juggles between the gritty (thanks to old chum Wiley who is brought back to offer his quick-flow rhyming), and the melancholic - courtesy of newcomer Charlie Brown and his soulful, heartbreak vocals.

Beats is also on top form bridging a gap between pop, R&B and grime, thanks to a conglomerate of squelchy reversed synths, claps, snares and chunky beats. Giving the U.S. producers a run for the money, the UK charts couldn't hurt from more inventive homegrown pop like this. Recommended.
