X Factor winner Alexandra Burke's first single 'Hallelujah' is a classically haunting and beautiful song that will leave you with goosebumps.
Despite being covered more times than you might care to count, Leonard Cohen's 'Hallelujah' still has the same impact each time you hear it, and Alexandra's version continues this effect - although it slightly veers off from the simplicity of the original track itself.
There is no doubt that Alexandra has an amazing voice, but in this song it seems to be lacking emotion - perhaps due to the speedy realease of the single. Her over-the-top octave variations don't do the track any favours - maybe she is trying too hard.
Overall you can't dislike any version of 'Hallelujah' (unless it was turned into a rap song). The track itself is a great song and Alexandra is a great singer, but somehow it doesn't really work.
