If you were lucky enough to track down the last single (ADHD) from Blood Red Shoes, chances are you were not only blown away by the sheer volume and fierce intent of the Brighton twosome, but your ears have only just stopped ringing too. Sadly, follow-on single You Bring Me Down lacks the same impact or the knock 'em for dead punch of their last offering.
The track is still jerky, vibrant and full of youthful appeal, but comes across like a slightly lighter, tamer version of the same band that last time around, left a lot of people drooling for more. It's only when the full-steam-ahead crescendo kicks in and the manic vocals of "nothing can stop this creeping fear", that we really hear the ferocious potential of the pair
This is far from a bad song; You Bring Me Down is still a killer track and puts shame to most other singles released this week. It just lacks that dinosaur sized bite of their previous releases. Now if you catch the band live on stage, that's a whole different story altogether.
