Craig David - Insomnia
[Warners]

Listening to 'Insomnia', it's not difficult to hear why Craig David has enjoyed popularity in the U.S. Produced by Jim Beanz (a collaborator of hitmaker TimbalandTimbaland), this latest single taken from his strangely timed 'Greatest Hits' compilation is a dance-pop track that sounds more suited to Rihanna or Chris Brown, than a UK singer whose music career started life as an underground garage MC.

'Insomnia' takes its beat from Ne-Yo's brilliant 'Closer' and takes its melody from... well, Ne-Yo's 'Closer'. There are too many similarities and too soon after the single dominated the charts, making it difficult to enjoy the Craig's effort without thinking he's just ripped-off a great track.

It seems Mr David is playing it safe when it comes to wanting a hit, he's not going for anything exciting or different and we're just listening to what sounds like a UK cover version of the aforementioned song. But luckily for Craig, the rest of his 'Greatest Hits' album is packed with many classic songs that show-off his true potential.
