With The Pigeon Detectives releasing their second album 'Emergency' so soon after their debut (nearly a year to the day in fact) and without any significant shift in sound, the Leeds indie stars and their shouty blend of pop-laden lad-rock, are in need of some kind of rapid change if they don't want fans to lose interest soon.
From the title, 'Everybody Wants Me' comes across as a self-assured message of the band's own self-importance - but, it's a tale of unrequited love - in this case everyone wants frontman Matt Bowman, except for the one girl he has fallen for. Despite the subject at hand, the band won't be winning any prizes soon for their lyrical genius on such a heartfelt matter; well not with nursery-rhyme couplets such as "I remember when we were young, things were easy we had so much fun".
The Pigeon Detectives can write a catchy, easy-to-enjoy pop single - their soaring popularity and high chart entries do more than prove this - but 'Everybody Wants Me' isn't anything the five-piece have served before, many a time. For now they'll prove a popular fixture at the Summer festivals, but come album number 3 they'll really need to branch out.
