Roots Manuva - Buff Nuff
[Big Dada]

Roots Manuva has been AWOL for two years now, but he's snuck out of the woodwork and dropped this witty single 'Buff Nuff', before the album 'Slime & Reason' lands in August. Thanks to their hands at work in the studio (Toddla T and Ross Orton - Ed.), it's being dubbed as "Sheffield dancehall", which isn't too far off the mark - 'Buff Nuff' does indeed sound like the kind of electroclash stuff Fat Truckers and the rest of the steel city were making back in 2003, only the modern dancehall-esque beats do stop the track from sounding dated.

The lyrics are great - Rodney Smith is living the true lifestyle of an MC; if he shopped at LIDL and drank Rola Cola instead of Cristal champagne, that is. He begs girls for attention and instead of offering glitz and glamour to woo the laydeez, Manuva promises such desirables as a ride on his bike - or as the video shows, as much ice cream as they can handle. His words, along with Kid Acne, prove not all urban music has to be so boringly serious. In fact, this is a really fun song that could do well if picked up by the radio bigwigs.
