"A guarantee by the artist: "I tried my very best to make this music loveable" reads the back of the CD case for 'Rest Now, Weary Head! You Will Get Well Soon", the debut album from the positively named Get Well Soon . And it's true; every second, minute, individual note and track has been painstakingly crafted with the utmost of care and attention to detail, while not getting too clinical in the process. At three years in the making, Germany's Konstantin Gropper - chief songwriter, singer, multi-instrumentalist and band leader - has spent the time wisely chiselling these stellar-proportioned compositions and it more than pays off.

Across thirteen original songs and a cover of Underworld's 'Born Slippy', we encounter a dizzy merging of orchestral string arrangements, dramatic post-rock, Balkan-folk, trumpets galore, glockenspiels, banjos - both witty and serious, mournful voices and duetting vocals, harmonicas, pianos and percussion that shake hands with Efterklang and Beirut - plus this repeated style of melancholic songwriting is like the band have thumbed through the Radiohead, Nick Cave and Tom Waits guides to songwriting (ok, those last two influences came directly from Gropper's website).

At an hour in length, parts of the album could have been left-off to form a neater, more compact and perfect 45 minute classic. But as it stands, this is still a very detailed listening experience - rich in depths, layers and instrumentation, with a few surprises here and there, new sounds that unfold each time you load the CD and with so much going on at once, it's impossible to lose interest. A striking debut and welcome introduction.
