Ladyhawke - Paris Is Burning
[Modular]

Being signed to Modular Records and peddling a love of all things punk, disco and synths galore that are so fashionable and "hip" right now, 26-year-old New Zealand born but London-based Ladyhawke , could be dismissed as another blog-favoured scenester. But you'd be wrong to jump to such a quick conclusion - very wrong.

Her first real single (not counting the download-only 'Back Of The Van') 'Paris Is Burning', is pleasantly rewarding on the old ears; there's a euphoric chorus, a nostalgic nod to the 80s (that proves not to sound contrived), a body-jerking bassline and seeing as Phillipa Brown used to be a drummer in her old school band, it could explain the hypnotic loops of clattering cowbell percussion laid on top of even more percussion, then sprawled over a heavy backbeat.

It takes catchiness to a whole new level. Great fun.
