Gotye - Hearts A Mess
[Lucky Number]

With terms like "Australian Beck" being linked with 28-year-old songwriter Gotye, Wally De Backer has a lot to live upto before the track has even entered your iTunes playlist. 'Hearts A Mess' is this sample-aholic's UK entrance, which seems strange considering in his native country down under, he's released two albums so far.

Combining a shedload of ideas that lean clearly towards the darker side of pop, 'Hearts A Mess' merges both a radio-friendly chorus with a mound of interesting elements not usually associated with a poppier listen: harp plucks, a sampled jazz-y bassline, simple organ notes, swirling orchestration and a singer that turns from a timid quiet whisper, to an intense powerful vocal.

It all sounds extremely new and vibrant when situated alongside the plethora of forgettable bands currently doing the rounds - despite first being released two years ago. With so many ideas contained with a single track, the accompanying album 'Like Drawing Blood' must make for one very exciting and diverse listen.
