The Pigeon Detectives - Emergency
[Dance To The Radio]

Back with their second album ‘Emergency’ and the first release from it, This Is An Emergency, gaining a shocking amount of airplay, The Pigeon Detectives are well and truly back in time for festival season. Already confirmed to play a string of events including T In The Park, the Oxygen festival and their own sold-out tour in May, the indie-pop five piece from Leeds seem to have high aspirations for their second album.

Touring with everyone from the Dirty Pretty Things to the Kaiser Chiefs since their last longplayer, the band seem to have stayed close to their roots and ‘Emergency’ is sure to quench the thirst of any Pigeons’ fan. Similar to their debut, ‘Emergency’ comes fully equipped with catchy melodies and repetitive lyrics inspired by intoxicated nights, girls and the ‘rock and roll’ lifestyle.

The band are with the independent label Dance To The Radio, which released their debut album ‘Wait For Me’ in May of 2007. ‘Wait For Me’ was home to the brilliant debut single ‘I Found Out’, closely followed by Take Her Back, Romantic Type and the title track ‘Wait For Me’. Their new single ‘This Is An Emergency’ seems to mimic their other catchy releases and will soon be accompanied by chants and mumbles on any Indie dance floor.

‘Emergency’ seems to be in keeping with the adolescent outlook on life heard with ‘Wait For Me’, but appears to have captured a more sensitive side with the acoustic track ‘Nothing To Do With You’ and ‘Making Up Numbers’ proving the band have more depth than was first apparent. On the other hand, thought-provoking lyrics have by no means been the Pigeons’ strong point; 'Keep On Your Dress’ hears front man Matt Bowman mumble "drinking all the time and now you’re repeating yourself", which seems to encapsulate the album perfectly.

‘Emergency’ nevertheless, has overcome the dreaded expectations of a follow-up album and is sure to be well-received by the devoted Pigeon Detectives fanbase and enthral the devotees at the forthcoming summer festivals, as well as be as much of a success as their debut.
