Ashlee Simpson - Outta My Head (Ay Ya Ya)
[Polydor]

Ashlee Simpson has decided to abandon her punky Avril Lavigne image, instead jumping on the latest bandwagon of working with man of the minute Timbaland on new single 'Outta My Head (Ay Ya Ya)'.

Like others such as Madonna and Nelly Furtado, Simpson (or more likely her managers) probably presumed that working with the famously successful Timbaland would win over any of his fans, but this song proves that having a good producer doesn't necessarily mean having a good tune.

Although the song is sure to do quite well in the charts, it has to be one of the most annoying songs I have ever listened to due to the fact it's so catchy. Once you've heard the track you will have it in your head all day and probably be singing "Get Outta My Head" yourself - purely because you pray it does. Ironically, the fact it's so irritatingly catchy will also be the reason it'll do ok, like so many other songs people love to hate.

The tune is really reminiscent of 80's pop music and her vocals are a cross between Gwen Stefani and Cyndi Lauper. However, unlike other songs that have also had an 80's theme lately, this one doesn't seem to have any modern touch and stays 100% retro.
