Pendulum - Propane Nightmares
[WEA]

Described as drum 'n' bass, Pendulum's 'Propane Nightmares' will have the traditionalists fuming. Ok, there are drum 'n' bass "inspired" beats, but imagine if you will, that they had been given the going over by Fatboy Slim back in the late 90s. In fact, there are several sections of this single that scream Big Beat and we all remember what an awful scene that was.

A few parts are enjoyable - it's catchy, it's unpretentious, should be popular with radio listeners, but then these only apply for the first few spins. In complete opposition, there are too many moments you wish you could have gone without - namely a fanfare of Ricky Martin Latin trumpets, crap computer processed vocals and some really tacky synth-play that sounds as modern and hip as the theme tune to 80s cartoon Inspector Gadget (especially during the closing 30 seconds).

The problem here, lies in Pendulum trying to cram too much into one space and it's a messy listen, almost like two or three different songs being played on top of one another. it doesn't bode well for next month's 'In Silico' album.
