The Envy Corps - Story Problem
[Vertigo]

It sometimes speaks volumes when a single is re-released. Did the track fail to be widely acknowledged the first time, due to being available in such low quantities? Or is it because the band have such a weak selection of material, they have to resort to rehashing their better songs? With The Envy Corps, the second choice isn't really an option. As far as Story Problem is concerned, the song does have huge capabilities and should hopefully angle a few more ears towards next week's (much delayed) brilliant 'Dwell' album.

While not their most genius few minutes, the song is a slow-punched melding of pop and Americana indie-rock that hits all the right places. Frontman Luke Pettipoole's voice quivers like the guy from Tapes 'N Tapes, but it sounds so genuine and passionate (in the chorus) that you can't fault it, guitars are of the usual jangly nature and it ends in the rather anthemic football terrace chant of "la la la" (altogether now). Story Problem should be taken on face value, it's unashamed and honest indie-pop that doesn't pretend to be anything more.
