Plugs - That Number
[People In The Sky]

You may be aware of Morgan Quaintance's musical output already as he's a member of Does It Offend You, Yeah? But whatever you do, don't let that put you off investigating his other band Plugs and their new EP 'That Number' - surprisingly one of the best releases you'll hear all year.

With the single, Plugs have created three tracks so widely varied and rich in diversity, that it must take at least 20 listens just to realise half of what's going on. But this isn't a messy listen; it's pure excitement, where you can literally pick any genre from the book of musical styles and it's likely the three-piece will have soaked-up its influence somewhere along the lines.

Starting off like the electronic folk of Tunng, That Number changes into a calypso rhythm of bass and synths, digital percussion, Odelay'-era hip-hop beats, tweaks, effects and electronics, that should have Hot Chip on their toes. If anything would be classed as making it difficult for yourself, Plugs could struggle ever beating this EP, so strong are the tracks on display.
