The Courteeners - St Jude
[Polydor]

The highly anticipated 'St. Jude' album from the Manchester band The Courteeners, reinforces and exceeds the catchy melody and articulate lyrics of their previous releases 'Acrylic', 'What Took You So Long' and their latest release 'Not Nineteen Forever', proving any criticisms of the band primarily unjustified.

The band are now with the renowned Label Polydor, yet were wildly accepted around Manchester selling out gigs without even releasing a single. 'Teeners have been compared with other Mancunian wonders such as Oasis and The Smiths, however this album undoubtedly sets them apart from any other talent to escape from Manchester and more so sets the bar for the British music industry.

The Courteeners have restored the belief that Northern bands are capable of originality releasing the 'Indie genre' from the sickly taste of Southern bands imitating the accents, lyrics and melodies of infamous bands such as The Clash.

Fray's articulate lyrics and ability to convey honest, meaningful lyrics so successfully is something that true ‘Indie’ fans have long been deprived of. Every track on this album has been perfected and is likely to excel the assumptions of journalists, who have yet to remove their blinkers. The Courteeners are well on their way of grasping the rest of the nation like they have previously done with Manchester.

Ultimately, the attractive quality of this band is their modest yet ambitious attack at music. Fray's criticisms of supposed ‘music fans’ in ‘Fallowfield Hillbilly’ and ‘What Took You So Long’ is something to be taken with a pinch of salt. His dry wit could be observed as ignorant, however his ambition and talent is irretrievably something that is here to stay.
